The City of Oakland is currently recruiting to fill a Recreation Center Director vacancy at the Arroyo Viejo Recreation Center - Inclusion Center within the Office of Parks and Recreation. General Position: Under direction, the incumbent plans, implements and oversees community based recreational programs and activities; manages a facility or a city-wide program that provides social and educational leisure time programs for participants; and performs as working supervisor to assigned staff, and performs related duties as assigned. This is a professional classification whose incumbents perform supervision, management, leadership and program planning. The Recreation Center Director develops and implements recreational programs within established operating policies. Incumbents are expected to use professional judgment and skill in the performance of assignments. This classification differs from the Recreation Program Director in that the incumbent performs as a working supervisor to assigned part-time and/or full time staff, conducts and analyzes community needs assessment surveys, and is responsible for preparing and developing recreation center budgets. Receives general supervision from the Recreation General Supervisor or management staff. May provide supervision to the Recreation Program Director, Recreation Leaders, Recreation Specialists, Recreation Aides and volunteers. Selective Certification - ADA Compliance: The current vacancy is located at the Arroyo Viejo Recreation Center - Inclusion Center within the Office of Parks and Recreation. The incumbent in this position will be the Office of Parks and Recreation's primary point of contact for program and service accommodation requests made by qualified persons with disabilities under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used only to fill vacancies that may occur within The City that are selectively certified for Recreation Center Director (ADA Compliance) including full-time and permanent part-time positions. The Selection Process Stage I: The first stage in the selection process will consist of a review of each applicant employment application, current resume, and supplemental questionnaire for minimum qualifications (weighted pass/fail). Applications submitted without all required materials will not be given further consideration. Stage II: The second stage will consist of subject matter experts evaluating and rating the completed supplemental questionnaires. Applicant responses to the supplemental questions must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities listed in the qualifications section of this announcement. The evaluation of supplemental questions may be weighted 100% of an applicant score (before residency and/or veteran points) and may determine rank on the eligible list. If a sufficient number of quality application packets are received, the supplemental screening may be followed by a third stage and the most qualified applicants will be invited to the next stage. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee advancement to Stage III. Stage III: The third stage may consist of an oral examination that may be preceded by a brief written exercise (weighted 100%) and that will test the knowledge, skills and abilities listed in the qualifications section. The ranked eligible list may be developed directly from the supplemental screening OR the results of Stage III. Candidates must earn a scale score of 70 in this examination process to be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration.
