POSITION INFORMATION
POSITION IS AVAILABLE TO PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES ONLY.

The Department of Revenue is seeking a self-motivated application developer to join our team to analyze and enhance tax processing software. This is an excellent opportunity to work on challenging projects with current technology.

This Senior Applications Developer position will work on major tax programs for the State of Nebraska.

Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for all phases of application development and maintenance; communicates with system users to determine needs; researches system enhancements; performs design and analysis of computer systems. This position will perform at an advanced level to analyze, create, and modify complex computer applications of considerable size and scope and perform a full range of duties. 

Examples of Work: Examples of work include:

Systems Analysis:
• Works collaboratively with business users and other stakeholders to define system requirements;
• Performs information analysis and organization; and
• Estimates costs for potential changes.

Systems Design & Implementation:
• Prepares system specifications;
• Develops the functional design;
• Develops implementation plans; and
• Prepares system documentation.

Develops and debugs program code:
• Performs alpha/unit testing and participates in system program testing;
• Prepares program documentation; and
• Writes code to produce ad hoc reports as requested. 

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
REQUIREMETNS: A bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science, information systems, mathematics, engineering, or other related field and two years of experience, education, or training in coding computer applications; programming experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis.

PREFERRED: Knowledge of Nebraska tax programs and knowledge of tools and technologies that are, or might be, used by the Nebraska Department of Revenue. These technologies include: COBOL, JCL, TSO, Xpediter, Topaz, SQL, Java. Applicants are not required to have knowledge of all the technologies listed above. 

OTHER: The Department does not sponsor non-immigrant work visas for this position. You must be a US Citizen or A Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States.
