POSITION INFORMATION
The Department of Revenue is proud to offer a uniquely rewarding opportunity in public service! As an Inspector, you will travel across the state to assist members of the public who are licensed to conduct charitable gaming, including keno, pickle cards, and raffles. Revenue generated from charitable gaming goes right back into the community, so your efforts will directly impact many Nebraskans for the better. You are also the Department’s eyes and ears regarding the regulation of devices such as pool tables, arcade games, and other so-called mechanical amusement devices, and you will verify that each device has a valid decal affixed. Regulating skill devices will also be an integral part of your responsibilities. Finally, you are the State’s front line for cigarette tax regulation and will conduct random inspections at retail locations to determine that packs of cigarettes have valid tax stamps.

This position appeals to those individuals with an adventurous mindset. No one day will be the same, as each day will take you to new places and new experiences. Although you will consistently work 40 hours each week, you will largely decide how to allocate your time most effectively. In short, this is not an 8 to 5 desk job.

In the performance of your duties, you will be subject to minimal supervision. However, you will be part of close-knit team that is there to assist, support, and encourage you whenever and wherever we can. This team consists of 4 other Inspectors, including a Supervising Inspector, and 6 Deputy State Sheriffs who serve as the Department’s law enforcement section. Being an integral part of this team, we are invested in your success. Your supervisor and fellow Inspectors will work with you over the first month or longer to ensure you have all the skills, knowledge, and abilities to handle any scenario with confidence. We will be there as a resource for you for the duration of your tenure.

You will be provided with all equipment necessary to do your job, including a laptop, phone, and state vehicle. While 70% of your time is spent on the road, there will be days when you will need to work from home to go over returns, filings, and other paperwork. To provide a conducive environment, we will help set you up with a home office at no additional cost. In very rare instances, you may be required to work out of a state office building.

The State of Nebraska provides a comprehensive and highly competitive benefits package. We provide a $20,000 term life insurance policy at no cost to you. We cover 79% of medical insurance premiums. We also offer a 156% matching contribution to your retirement fund. You’ll have 12 vacation days per year and 12 sick days per year, both of which increase with tenure. You will also enjoy 13 paid holidays each year. The state will offer you access to a wealth of online and in-person professional development courses, including over 16,000 on demand training courses. Join our team and be part of something special.
