If you enjoy performing investigations, counseling and providing educational work to enforce public health laws, rules and regulations that govern communicable diseases, including enteric infections, HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases and/or tuberculosis, this may be your chance to be a part of our team!

The Health and Human Service Agency's Public Health Services Division has an immediate opening for Communicable Disease Investigator.  Under general supervision, incumbents perform non-criminal investigations in field, office and health care facility settings to confirm diagnosis and, if possible, determine/locate the source of communicable disease for prevention and control. Incumbents perform limited counseling and education of persons with communicable diseases, in the effort to prevent and control the spread of infections.
 
Required education and experience:
  1. State of California Phlebotomy License; AND,
  2. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in a health related science; OR,
  3. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in a behavioral, social, natural science, or a closely related field; AND one (1) year of experience in communicable disease investigations; OR,
  4. An associate of arts degree from an accredited U.S. college, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in a behavioral, social, natural science, or a closely related field; AND three (3) years of experience in communicable disease investigations; OR,
  5. Five (5) years of work experience in communicable disease investigations.
